STATEMENT

Alaska has taught me visual communication is an important part of processing what I experience. The vastness informs my perceptions and I investigate my experiences through art making.

This exploration is a perpetual process of self-examination, inquiry and developing structure with materials. The reflection of wilderness is a consistent thread through the work. I love color, unashamed line and lean toward disrupted realism. Portraying the vigor of the subject is a constant focus with a backstory of how we’ve abandoned the earth and each other, betrayal, power inherent in environment and exploitation. I’m interested in engaging various mediums to physically interact with the surface and narrate the voice.

I divide my time between a home and studio in Alaska and an Oregon studio.
